Huddersfield Civic Society - Climate Change: Implications for the Planning and Management of Places
This event is being hosted by the Huddersfield Civic Society.
Professor Peter Roberts will focus on climate change and the consequential agenda for the planning and management of places in Kirklees.
About this event
COP26, the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, has focused our attention on the challenges the world faces in dealing with the impact of climate change. It is, therefore, timely that our lecture on the 25th November is by Professor Peter Roberts, recently appointed Chair of Kirklees Climate Commission.
The focus of this lecture is climate change and the consequential agenda for the planning and management of places, with a particular emphasis on Huddersfield and the wider Leeds City Region.
Although many of the issues facing places are common and ubiquitous, the particular characteristics evident in localities will determine the consequences of climate change for individual places. They will also influence the most appropriate array of measures that can be deployed to avoid or mitigate harmful actions.
Professor Roberts will consider what needs to be done to manage a successful transition to a future state in which a changed climate necessitates the adoption of revised policies and actions. He will explore what a future Huddersfield might look like.
Members of the audience are invited to consider their perception of climate change and its implications for Huddersfield. Prior to the lecture a poll will be conducted of what attendees consider to be the most significant challenge and this poll will be used to frame the discussion.
The event is free for HCS members .A collection will be held after the event - a donation of £5.00 is suggested for non- members to help towards costs.
We hope you will be able to join us.
